If you’ve ever purchased a couch and felt like it just didn’t look right in your living room, or if you’re looking for furniture to spruce up your new home, then this is the post for you! It can be difficult to choose which color of furniture would suit the best.
Luckily, I have put together a list of different colors and what they mean so you can make an informed decision. Choosing the right color really can transform your entire home. First, you’ll need to know that there are three primary colors to choose from: red, yellow, and blue.
The three primary colors
From these primary colors we can make everything in the world: orange, green, purple, brown- you name it. You can make all the secondary colors by mixing your three primaries together.
For example: So now you are probably wondering what the effects of different colors have on your home. When looking at color psychology and which color would suit your home best let’s first look at red.
Red: Red is a very bold color, but it isn’t very welcoming in comparison to other colors. For this reason red is the color of passion, aggression, courage and strength. On the other hand, red has been linked to aggression and anger.
A balanced neutral house would be a neutral tone of yellow with a touch of red in it (maybe some orange as well), which gives an energetic effect on the paint or wall.
Yellow: Yellow is a very warm color and is often used in kitchens. This color stimulates creativity and imagination. On the other hand, yellow can stress you out, which is why you should stay away from this color at night to avoid insomnia.
Yellow is the color of happiness, it makes people happy when they look at it. Yellow can make your kitchen look brighter, but you should be careful because it has a tendency to turn ugly when used in big quantities in comparison with other colors.
Blue: Blue is a calming color and is often used in bedrooms to create a calm atmosphere. Blue is also good for meditation and has been used since the time of the Egyptians. You should avoid blue at night to prevent sleep problems.
Other colors: There are lots of other colors you can use in your house, or bedroom depending on what you want. For example, green can be uplifting and spread joy while purple makes you think of royalty (red + green = purple).
I advise using color in moderation, too much of anything is overpowering.
Here’s another chart that shows the ideal color scheme: Starting with white on the left, we move to green at the bottom and end up at orange in the top right corner. Purple is in the middle of all these colors. Green, yellow and red are not considered to be warm colors, so when choosing a color for your bedroom make sure you choose a color to suit your personality.
Many people ask me how much paint is needed for each room. The amount of paint needed for each room depends on two things: how many coats of paint you want to apply and how large the room is. The chart below will give you a rough idea about how much paint is required for different sized rooms:
Now that you know how much paint is required for each coat, you will also need to know that primer is also necessary because it helps your paint stick to the wall. In addition, primer makes your color go on smoother and more evenly. Here is a cheap primer that I’m a fan of.
Painting Cost:
Before you start painting you will also need to know how much paint you will use. For example, a small room such as a bathroom can only have half of the amount of paint my accent wall took (16 gallons) in the same room if you want it to look good.
So if your bathroom takes double that amount of color (32 gallons), then be prepared to buy twice as much paint.
